Cellulite Treatment using VelaShape™

How Does VelaShape™ Work?

VelaShape™ uses elōs™ technology, a combination of heat, light, suction and massage, to precisely target fatty tissues within the treatment area, along with improving the texture of the skin and reducing the appearance of cellulite. This procedure is considered to be a less invasive alternative to liposuction, as it does not require any incisions and is virtually painless.

VelaShape can be used to improve the contour of the body and reduce the appearance of cellulite on the thighs, buttocks, love handles and abdomen. It is FDA approved for treating the thighs, one of the most common areas for cellulite development.

What To Expect During Treatment

Most patients find VelaShape treatments comfortable - like a warm deep tissue massage. The treatment is designed to accommodate your sensitivity and comfort level, and most patients experience a deep heating sensation beneath their skin, which may continue for a few hours after treatment. Your skin may also appear redder than usual and feel tighter for several hours.

Treatment Overview

A full VelaShape treatment involves a series of four treatment sessions, which is recommended to be performed once a week. Depending on which part of the body is to be treated, your doctor may use the VSmooth applicator or the VContour applicator. The VSmooth applicator is designed for larger body areas, such as the thighs, buttocks and abdomen, and is moved across the area to apply heat energy. The VContour applicator is used for smaller areas such as the calves, arms and face, or to refine areas treated with the VSmooth.

Since cellulite reduction through VelaShape offers temporary results, treatment will need to be repeated at regular intervals in order to maintain the smooth results of this procedure. Maintenance procedures are usually performed every two to three months or as needed by the individual patient.

What To Expect After Treatment

Patients will start noticing results after the first session of VelaShape, with the skin surface of the treated area feeling smoother, firmer and tighter. At the end of the treatment regimen, you will notice significant improvement in the look and feel of your skin. You will notice a very smooth, well-contoured and sculpted body. Many patients report a reduction of about one inch after VelaShape treatment.

It is important to understand that the degree of response to VelaShape treatments varies from patient to patient. Some patients respond better to this treatment than others. Results in circumference and cellulite reduction will be most apparent six to eight weeks after the final treatment session.

Enhancement of Treatment Results

In order to achieve better long-term results, we encourage patients to maintain a healthy lifestyle by eating right and exercising at least three times a week. It is important to control your weight after the VelaShape procedure, as weight gain can negatively affect your results.

While no specific diet is required after this procedure, including certain foods may help patients achieve better results for cellulite reduction. Likewise, taking certain steps before treatment can also help enhance the results of the VelaShape procedure. Some of these helpful tips include:

  • Drink at least eight glasses of water a day
  • Limit caffeine intake
  • Reduce the intake of processed foods.
  • Include:
    • Eggs (essential amino acids to help produce collagen, lecithin for skin strength)
    • Cucumbers (rich in skin strengthening silica)
    • Blueberries (anti-oxidants)
    • Soy yogurt/soy chips (estrogen-laden foods - help reduce cellulite)
    • Nuts- almonds (essential fatty acids - help produce collagen)
    • Spinach (rich in skin strengthening lecithin)
    • White fish- tuna, grouper
    • Green vegetables (fight inflammation)
  • Remove any sunless tanning products prior to treatments
  • Incorporate stretching into your regular fitness program
  • Moisturize daily to keep your skin healthy and glowing

Treatment Safety

VelaShape is FDA approved for all skin types and colors. Some patients may experience mild bruising and redness after treatment, but these symptoms usually go away on their own after a few days. There are no reported short or long-term health effects associated with this procedure.
